LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Grant Govel and two relievers combined on a six-hit shutout Saturday as Southern California defeated Illinois 4-0 at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

The Trojans (14-0) scored all their runs in two innings. Isaac Cadena’s two-run single in the first gave USC an early lead. Two unearned runs scored on an error in the sixth.

Govel, the top star, earned the win with seven strong innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. Sax Matson struck out four over two perfect innings of relief. Illinois starter Regan Hall took the loss, allowing two unearned runs over six innings despite not surrendering a hit.

The Fighting Illini (7-6) managed six hits but could not push a run across. The teams conclude their three-game Big Ten series Sunday.
