Hornets Stun Tigers Behind Sewell’s Five RBIs
BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — Cameron Sewell drove in all five runs, including a decisive eighth-inning grand slam, as Sacramento State upset sixth-ranked LSU 5-4 on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field.
Sewell’s two-out double in the second inning opened the scoring. His slam in the eighth provided a crucial cushion before LSU’s late rally. The Tigers scored three times in the eighth, aided by a wild pitch and an error, and got a ninth-inning solo homer from pinch-hitter Daniel Harden.
Sacramento State’s Kurt Marton set the tone with 4 1/3 hitless innings of relief for the win. Five Hornets relievers combined to allow just three hits, stranding the tying run at second to end the game. The Hornets improved to 4-10, while the Tigers fell to 12-4. The teams conclude their series Sunday.
