W Georgia at Wichita State
Rainy Doubleheader Opener Awaits Struggling Wolves at Eck Stadium
WICHITA, Kan. (Interstat) — The Wichita State Shockers will look to continue their dominant start and extend the W Georgia Wolves’ early-season woes when the teams meet Saturday in the opener of a doubleheader at Eck Stadium.
First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, though forecasts call for 70-degree temperatures and rain at game time. The teams will play a second game following the conclusion of the first.
The Shockers (8-3) enter riding a wave of momentum after a 22-4 rout of the Wolves on Friday. Key contributors in that offensive explosion included designated hitter Owen Washburn, shortstop Alex Ulloa and center fielder Kaleb Duncan. Wichita State has won eight of its last nine games, with the lone blemish a 15-8 loss to Omaha on Feb. 28.
Conversely, the Wolves (1-12) are mired in an 11-game losing streak. Their only victory came against Central Michigan on Feb. 14, the second game of a doubleheader they lost 15-6 earlier that day. W Georgia has been outscored 48-8 in its last three contests, including Friday’s lopsided defeat where Patrick McCullough, Tyler Fallmann and Conner Hilton were noted for their efforts.
The historical result and current trajectories heavily favor the home team. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-0 victory for Wichita State in the opener.
Following the doubleheader, the series concludes Sunday. W Georgia then travels to face Georgia Tech on Tuesday before opening a home series with Jacksonville next weekend. The Shockers will visit Kansas State on Tuesday before beginning a four-game home set with Butler on Thursday.
