Xavier at Oregon State

Rainy Night Clash Set for Corvallis as Beavers Host Musketeers

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon State Beavers look to build on their strong early-season form when they host the Xavier Musketeers in a nonconference baseball game Saturday evening at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under forecasted rainy conditions and a temperature near 52 degrees.

Oregon State (7-4) enters with momentum after a 10-6 road victory over rival Oregon on Tuesday. The Beavers’ offense has been potent, averaging over six runs per game in their last five outings.

A key contributor has been left fielder Josh Proctor. He is coming off a 3-for-5, two-RBI performance against the Ducks and has hit safely in four of his last five games, including a home run in a Feb. 28 loss to Alabama.

Xavier (5-7) arrives after a decisive 13-4 win at Ohio State on Wednesday, which snapped a three-game skid. The Musketeers’ offense broke out for 13 hits in that contest, led by right fielder Clay Burdette. The standout junior went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs against the Buckeyes, raising his average to .367 over his last five games.

The teams opened their three-game series Friday afternoon, with Oregon State securing a victory.

On the mound, both teams are expected to turn to their weekend rotations. Xavier will need its pitching to contain a deep Oregon State lineup, while the Beavers’ staff aims to build on a team ERA that sits below 4.00 in home games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Oregon State is projected to win 7-3.

The series continues Sunday afternoon and concludes Monday.
