San Diego at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (Interstat) — The California Golden Bears, riding a six-game winning streak, will host the San Diego Toreros in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Evans Diamond.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 68 degrees.

The Golden Bears (9-3) enter with momentum after a 15-6 midweek rout of Cal State Bakersfield, powered by a career day from first baseman Daniel Murillo. The junior went 5 for 6 with a home run and four RBIs in that victory and is batting .500 (12 for 24) with 12 RBIs during California’s current streak.

San Diego (7-4) looks to rebound after being shut out 9-0 by California on Friday night. The Toreros’ recent series against Michigan was a mixed bag, featuring a 6-5 extra-inning win bookended by two losses where they were outscored 18-2.

A key player for the Toreros is reliever Hayden Cody. Despite taking the loss in Sunday’s 9-2 defeat to Michigan, Cody delivered three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Over his last five appearances, he has allowed earned runs in only one outing.

Projections for the opener are split. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a narrow 7-6 victory for California, while its ELO rating system gives a slight 50.7% probability to San Diego.

The second game of the twin bill will follow approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first. The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon.
