Saint Bonaventure at Marshall
BECKLEY, W.Va. (Interstat) — The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to build on their most impressive win of the season when they host the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies in the second game of a weekend series Saturday evening at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 72 degrees.
Marshall (5-6) enters riding high after a 13-4 road rout of Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Left-hander Landen Doll was dominant in that victory, tossing six no-hit innings with eight strikeouts. The Thundering Herd will aim to carry that momentum after taking the series opener 1-0 on Friday night.
Saint Bonaventure (4-7) seeks to even the series and rebound from a tough 14-9 midweek loss at Kent State. The Bonnies’ offense runs through first baseman Joey Calabretti, who launched two home runs and drove in four in that defeat. Calabretti has shown two-way ability this season, also providing scoreless relief outings, but his power bat is central to the lineup.
The Bonnies have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over their last seven games. Marshall has been similarly up-and-down but is 3-1 at home this season.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 4-3 victory for the Thundering Herd.
Following Saturday’s contest, the series concludes Sunday afternoon. Saint Bonaventure then travels to Binghamton on Tuesday, while Marshall begins a two-game set at Louisville on Tuesday.
