Grambling at Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — The Southeastern Louisiana Lions will look to build on a decisive series-opening victory when they host the Grambling Tigers in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

First pitch for Game 1 is set for Saturday afternoon under cloudy skies and 82-degree temperatures. The nightcap will follow in the evening.

The Lions (7-7) dominated the opener Friday, routing Grambling 13-3. Southeastern Louisiana has won three of its last four, including midweek road wins at Louisiana-Monroe by scores of 16-6 and 15-5.

A key performer in those victories was infielder Connor Cuff. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs in the 16-6 win on March 4, and drove in a run in the March 3 contest. For the season, Cuff is batting .250 with five RBIs.

Grambling (4-8) seeks to halt a three-game skid, having been outscored 36-4 in losses to Northeastern, Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana. A bright spot in the recent struggles was reliever Rafael Capistran’s performance Tuesday at Northwestern State. Despite the 13-1 loss, Capistran threw four hitless, scoreless innings in relief, striking out seven.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 win for Southeastern Louisiana in the opener. The analytics service’s ELO system gives the Lions an 81.40% probability to win.

Following the doubleheader, Grambling hosts Northwestern State on Wednesday. Southeastern Louisiana travels to face South Alabama on Wednesday.
