Milwaukee at Southeast Missouri State

Rain Expected as Panthers Visit Redhawks at Capaha Field

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Interstat) — The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks look to build on a series-opening win when they host the Milwaukee Panthers in the second game of a weekend set Saturday at Capaha Field. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, though forecasts call for rain and a game-time temperature of 72 degrees.

The Redhawks (7-7) evened their record with a 13-4 victory over Evansville on Tuesday and took Friday’s opener against Milwaukee. The Panthers (2-10) seek to halt a four-game skid, having been outscored 30-8 during the stretch.

A key matchup could feature two bullpen arms. Milwaukee’s Alex Vander Loop has been a bright spot, delivering 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief over his last two appearances, allowing no hits against Minnesota and Duke. For the Redhawks, Benjamin Snider looks to rebound from a tough outing at Western Kentucky on Feb. 21. He was dominant in his last appearance Tuesday, throwing four scoreless innings with five strikeouts against Evansville.

Offensively, Southeast Missouri State’s Cal Sullivan provides power, connecting for a three-run homer in the midweek win. Milwaukee’s lineup has struggled for consistency, scoring three or fewer runs in seven of its 10 losses.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Redhawks are projected to win 5-2.

The teams are scheduled to conclude the three-game series Sunday afternoon. Milwaukee travels to Purdue on Tuesday, while Southeast Missouri State hosts Missouri State.
