George Mason at Georgetown

Preview: George Mason Patriots at Georgetown Hoyas

BETHESDA, Md. (Interstat) — The Georgetown Hoyas look to secure a series victory when they host the George Mason Patriots in the second game of a weekend set on Saturday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 49 degrees.

Georgetown (9-5) edged George Mason (5-6) 6-5 in a back-and-forth opener on Friday night. The Hoyas have won seven of their last nine games, while the Patriots have dropped four of six.

A key rematch on the mound is anticipated. George Mason reliever Tyson Willis was dominant in Friday’s loss, throwing three hitless innings with four strikeouts. He could be called upon for high-leverage work again or potentially see an expanded role.

Georgetown will counter with left-hander Kai Leckszas, who earned the win on Friday with five strong innings, allowing two earned runs on no hits. Over his last three starts, Leckszas is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA, having surrendered just three earned runs over 16 innings while striking out 16 batters.

The Patriots’ offense, which was held to five hits Friday, will aim for a rebound. They had scored 11 runs in each of their two previous games before the series opener. Georgetown’s Christian Hamilton, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs on Friday, remains a central threat in the lineup.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Georgetown 7, George Mason 5.

The weekend series concludes Sunday at George Mason.
