Harvard at Liberty
LYNCHBURG, Va. (Interstat) — The Liberty Flames, riding a four-game winning streak, will look to continue their strong start when they host the struggling Harvard Crimson in an afternoon game Saturday at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under cloudy skies with a forecast temperature of 82 degrees.
Liberty (8-3) enters with momentum after an 8-0 road victory at High Point on Tuesday, a game in which starter Cooper Harrington dazzled with six hitless innings and eight strikeouts. Harrington, a key player to watch, has not allowed an earned run in his last 9 1/3 innings of work.
He will face a Harvard team mired in an 0-6 slump to begin the season. The Crimson were shut out 9-0 at Rice on March 1 and fell 8-0 at Liberty just Friday night. Harvard has been outscored 61-21 this season.
A bright spot for the Crimson has been pitcher Andrew Abler, who will take the mound Saturday. Despite an 0-2 record, Abler has not allowed a hit in eight innings over his last two starts, though command issues have led to six earned runs. He struck out six in 4.0 innings against Tulane on Feb. 20.
The Flames’ offense is powered by players like center fielder Josh Campos, who drove in four runs against High Point. Liberty’s lineup will test a Harvard pitching staff that has a collective ERA over 7.00.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Liberty is projected to win 7-2.
The teams will conclude the series Sunday afternoon.
