Northeast Conference Rivals Meet in Chilly Saturday Showdown

NEW HAMBURG, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will clash when Fairleigh Dickinson visits Wagner in a Northeast Conference baseball game Saturday at Heritage Financial Park.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. Game-time temperatures are forecast to be near 37 degrees with cloudy skies.

The Knights (2-5) enter with a slight edge in record over the Seahawks (1-8). Both teams are coming off difficult non-conference stretches. Fairleigh Dickinson snapped a four-game skid with a 4-3 walk-off win over Iona on Wednesday. Wagner has lost three straight, including a 15-10 defeat at Maryland last Sunday.

A player to watch for Fairleigh Dickinson is outfielder Hunter Ray. He provided the decisive blow against Iona, hitting a two-run home run. Over his last seven games, Ray is batting .292 (7-for-24) with a homer and four RBIs.

For Wagner, reliever Vincent Corso has been a bright spot. In his last two appearances, covering 3.2 innings, he has not allowed a hit or an earned run. He struck out two in two scoreless innings against Maryland’s potent lineup.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 victory for Fairleigh Dickinson.

This is the second game of a weekend series. Wagner won the opener 1-0 on Friday night.

The Knights’ schedule shows a nine-game homestand following this series. The Seahawks will hit the road for a midweek game at Rutgers on Tuesday before continuing NEC play at Long Island next weekend.
