Samford at Kennesaw State

Rain Expected as Samford, Kennesaw State Open Doubleheader

KENNESAW, Ga. (Interstat) — The Samford Bulldogs and Kennesaw State Owls, both seeking momentum early in the season, are set to open a doubleheader Saturday at Fred Stillwell Stadium, with rain in the forecast.

First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026. The Bulldogs (5-7) and Owls (5-6) enter with nearly identical records after both suffered midweek losses to Southeastern Conference opponents.

Samford fell 6-2 at Auburn on Tuesday, while Kennesaw State dropped an 11-1 decision to Georgia the same day. The teams also met Friday, with Kennesaw State securing a win.

A player to watch for Samford is right-hander Austin Tommasini. He delivered a strong relief outing against Auburn, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. That performance followed a difficult appearance at Georgia on Feb. 22, where he allowed seven earned runs while recording just three outs.

Kennesaw State will look to reliever Peter Jezerinac. He has shown swing-and-miss ability, striking out three in a scoreless inning at Florida on Feb. 21, and added two more strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless frames against Georgia this week. However, he has been charged with runs in two of his last four outings without recording an out.

Both teams have experienced recent struggles. Samford’s season includes a 22-0 loss at Georgia, but also a series win over Bowling Green last weekend. Kennesaw State took two of three from West Virginia, with a 7-6 win on Sunday, before the loss to Georgia.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a close contest, favoring Kennesaw State 5-4.

Weather could be a factor, with game-time temperatures near 68 degrees (20 Celsius) and rain expected.

Following Saturday’s twin bill, the series concludes Sunday. Samford hosts Alabama A&M on Tuesday. Kennesaw State travels to Middle Tennessee for a three-game series starting next Friday.
