Saint Joseph`s at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — After a pitcher’s duel opened their series, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks and Bucknell Bison will meet again Saturday afternoon at Eugene B. Depew Field looking for an offensive spark.

Both teams enter the contest struggling early in the season. Saint Joseph’s sits at 4-7 overall after Friday’s 2-0 win here, while Bucknell fell to 3-8 with the loss.

The Hawks will look to build on the momentum from a combined no-hitter in the series opener. Duke McCarron, Christian Coppola and Andrew Gaines combined to strike out 15 Bison in the shutout. McCarron, who started and threw five hitless innings with seven strikeouts, is a key player for Saint Joseph’s. His recent outings have been a mixed bag, following Friday’s gem with a rough appearance against Wofford on Feb. 27 where he allowed six earned runs.

Bucknell’s Jonathan Adelmann was the hard-luck loser Friday, allowing one earned run on four hits over seven strong innings. The Bison have lost all three of his starts this season despite generally solid performances, including a one-run outing at Radford on Feb. 20.

Offense has been a challenge for both clubs. Saint Joseph’s has been held to two runs or fewer in five of its seven losses. Bucknell’s struggles are more pronounced, having been shut out twice and scoring two runs or fewer in five of its eight defeats.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Bucknell is projected to edge Saint Joseph’s 3-2 in this matchup.

First pitch is scheduled for Saturday afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 43 degrees. The three-game series will conclude Sunday at Saint Joseph’s.
