Tennessee Tech at Georgia Southern

Golden Eagles, Eagles Set for Saturday Showdown in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and the Georgia Southern Eagles will meet for the second game of their weekend series Saturday at J.I. Clements Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 76 degrees.

Tennessee Tech (6-6) evened the series with a victory Friday night. Georgia Southern (2-10) looks to rebound from that loss and halt a difficult start to its season.

A key matchup will feature Tennessee Tech right-hander Logan Moller against a Georgia Southern lineup seeking consistency. Moller has been a bright spot for the Golden Eagles, coming off a strong four-inning, one-hit outing with five strikeouts in a relief appearance against Notre Dame on March 1. In his last start on Feb. 21 against Ohio, he earned a win, allowing two earned runs over 4 2/3 innings.

Georgia Southern will counter with reliever Thomas Burke, who has shown swing-and-miss ability despite the team’s struggles. Burke struck out four in two perfect innings of relief at The Citadel on Wednesday. His season, however, has been uneven, including a tough outing against South Carolina Upstate on Feb. 28 where he allowed three earned runs.

Offensively, Tennessee Tech will aim to build on Friday’s performance after being shut out 11-0 by Notre Dame in its previous weekend series finale. Georgia Southern’s bats were quiet in a 7-1 midweek loss at The Citadel, a game in which its bullpen, including Burke, provided scoreless work.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tennessee Tech is projected to win 6-2.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon. Tennessee Tech will visit Tennessee on Tuesday, while Georgia Southern hosts Clemson in a neutral-site game in Clearwater, South Carolina.
