Dartmouth at Navy
Preview: Dartmouth at Navy, Game 1 of Doubleheader
CAPE SAINT CLAIRE, Md. (Interstat) — The Navy baseball team looks to even the series when it hosts Dartmouth in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for a chilly, cloudy afternoon with temperatures around 46 degrees.
The Midshipmen (8-4) aim to bounce back after dropping the series opener 3-1 on Friday. Navy’s Brady Bendik turned in a quality start in the loss, allowing one earned run over six innings. The right-hander has been a consistent arm for Navy, posting a 1.29 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 16.2 innings in his last three outings.
Dartmouth (2-5) will seek its second straight win behind a bullpen that dominated Friday. Reliever Trey Sejnoha was particularly sharp, striking out five over 3.2 perfect innings to secure the victory. Sejnoha has not allowed a hit in his last 8.1 innings of work across four appearances, fanning 13 batters.
The Big Green’s offense, however, has struggled for consistency this season, scoring three or fewer runs in five of their seven games. Navy’s lineup, which averages 5.8 runs per game, will try to break through against a Dartmouth pitching staff that silenced them on five hits Friday.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Navy is projected to win Saturday’s opener 7-1.
Following the doubleheader, the teams are scheduled to conclude the three-game series on Sunday. Navy will then visit Norfolk State on Tuesday. Dartmouth’s next action after the weekend is a doubleheader at Penn on March 21.
