Loyola Marymount at Arizona State

PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Loyola Marymount Lions look to halt a four-game skid when they visit the Arizona State Sun Devils in nonconference baseball action Friday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MST.

The Lions (5-10) enter having been outscored 29-5 in their last two games, including an 11-1 loss at UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Alec Johnson, who tossed five hitless innings with five strikeouts. Johnson, a player to watch for LMU, has been effective in stretches, allowing just four hits over his last 13 1/3 innings of work spanning three appearances.

Second baseman Andrew Mhoon provided the Lions’ lone offense Tuesday with a solo home run.

Arizona State (8-4) aims to rebound after dropping two of three on the road last weekend, including a 9-3 loss at Texas A&M on Sunday. Sun Devils reliever Taylor Penn struck out all four batters he faced in that contest. Penn, a key arm out of the bullpen, has not allowed a hit in his last 3 1/3 innings, recording six strikeouts.

The Sun Devils’ offense has shown potency at home, averaging over 10 runs per game in Phoenix this season.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Arizona State victory.

The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to complete the three-game series.
