MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — Cole Selvig pitched five scoreless innings and Minnesota’s offense erupted early in a 10-0 rout of UNLV on Friday.

Selvig allowed two hits and struck out seven. The Golden Gophers scored three runs in the second inning and five in the third to break the game open. Ty Allen highlighted the outburst with a three-run homer. Jack Spanier added three RBIs.

Joe Sperry completed the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief for Minnesota (10-3). UNLV (10-5) was held to one hit, a single by Reggie Bussey. The result defied a pregame simulation that projected a high-scoring UNLV victory.
