Texas-San Antonio at New Mexico State
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Interstat) — The surging UTSA Roadrunners, boasting one of the nation’s best records, open a three-game series at Presley Askew Field on Friday against the New Mexico State Aggies.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 69 degrees.
UTSA (11-1) arrives with a nine-game winning streak, including a 7-5 road victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday. The Roadrunners’ offense has been potent, scoring 10 or more runs in six games this season. In Tuesday’s win, Christian Hallmark went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
New Mexico State (5-6) is coming off an 8-6 win over in-state rival New Mexico on Tuesday. The Aggies have won three of their last four after a difficult start to the season that included a four-game sweep at Baylor.
A key matchup will feature bullpen arms. UTSA’s Mike DeBattista has been exceptional, most recently throwing 4 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings with four strikeouts on Tuesday. For the Aggies, Colton Sneddon has provided stability, logging 2 2/3 scoreless frames against New Mexico.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 Roadrunners victory, with its ELO rating system giving UTSA a 78.5% probability to win.
This series begins a challenging stretch for New Mexico State, which will visit Dallas Baptist and TCU after UTSA departs. The Roadrunners continue a road swing with midweek games at Texas Tech next week.
