Grambling at Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — The Grambling Tigers look to snap a three-game skid when they visit the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in non-conference baseball action Friday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 73 degrees.

Grambling (4-7) enters after a 13-1 loss at Northwestern State on Tuesday. The Tigers have been outscored 36-2 in their last three games. A bright spot in the recent defeat was reliever Rafael Capistran, who fired four hitless, scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Capistran’s recent outings have been volatile, but his performance Tuesday provides a potential boost for the bullpen.

Southeastern Louisiana (6-7) rides a wave of offensive momentum after scoring 31 runs in a two-game midweek sweep at Louisiana-Monroe. The Lions won 16-6 on Wednesday, led by shortstop Connor Cuff, who went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs. Cuff is 5 for 12 with three RBIs over his last three games, anchoring the middle of a surging Lions lineup.

The Lions hold a slight edge in overall record and have won four of their last six. The Tigers’ last victory was a 12-11 win at Dartmouth on Feb. 28.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight 4-3 victory for Southeastern Louisiana, with its ELO rating system giving the Lions an 81.4% probability to win.

The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to complete the three-game weekend series.
