East Carolina at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams with identical records and recent momentum will open a weekend series Friday when East Carolina visits Coastal Carolina at Springs Brooks Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature near 70 degrees.

The Pirates (7-5-1) and Chanticleers (7-5-1) both enter after midweek performances highlighted by strong pitching. East Carolina earned a 5-3 road win at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, while Coastal Carolina fell 6-4 at North Carolina State on Tuesday.

A key player to watch for East Carolina is reliever Joseph Webb. The right-hander was dominant in Wednesday’s victory, throwing four hitless innings with one earned run and five strikeouts. His recent outings have been inconsistent, however, including a tough appearance against North Carolina on Feb. 20 where he allowed four earned runs while recording just one out.

Coastal Carolina will counter with a bullpen arm of its own in Case Bosch. The right-hander has been excellent, not allowing a hit over his last 4 2/3 innings of work across two appearances, including 4 2/3 scoreless frames at NC State on Tuesday. For the season, Bosch has a 0.00 ERA over 11 1/3 innings in four outings.

Both teams have shown offensive firepower at times. The Pirates scored 14 runs against Rutgers on Feb. 27, and the Chanticleers put up 13 runs in wins over Campbell and VCU in February.

According to Interstat, the Chanticleers are projected favorites with a 61.9% probability to win. The service’s game simulator predicts a narrow 6-5 victory for Coastal Carolina.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday in Conway before both teams turn to midweek non-conference action next week.
