RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — Noel Valdez pitched six no-hit innings and the UC Davis Aggies defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders 4-2 in a Big West Conference opener Friday evening at Riverside Sports Complex.

Valdez allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts, earning the win despite the Highlanders scoring both runs on Lucas Bonham’s two-run homer in the sixth. UC Davis built its lead with a four-run third inning, keyed by RBI hits from Braydon Wooldridge and Ryan Lee. Mason Lerma and Rowen Barnes completed the four-hitter for the Aggies.

UC Davis improved to 6-7. UC Riverside fell to 3-11 despite outhitting the Aggies nine to eight.
