Saint John’s Outlasts Albany in 15-Inning Marathon at Kaiser Stadium

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Sean Britt’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 15th inning drove in Dylan Fitzsimmons, lifting Saint John’s to a 2-1 victory over Albany on Friday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium.

The Red Storm won despite being held scoreless for 14 innings by a historic combined pitching effort from Albany’s Matthew Mariano and Dylan Banner, who together threw 14 hitless innings with 11 strikeouts. Albany took a 1-0 lead in the seventh on John Vitucci’s RBI single, but Saint John’s tied it in the fifth on an unearned run driven in by Rob Mansour.

Saint John’s starter Liam O’Leary struck out eight over seven strong innings. The Great Danes fell to 0-9, while the Red Storm improved to 3-10.
