Saint Joseph`s at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet under the lights and likely in the rain Friday when the Saint Joseph’s Hawks visit the Bucknell Bison in nonconference baseball at Eugene B. Depew Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 6, with a forecast of 48 degrees and rain. Both clubs enter with identical 3-7 records.

The Hawks are coming off their best win of the young season, a 10-6 victory at Wofford on Sunday. Starter Luke Parise was dominant in that game, throwing five hitless innings while allowing one earned run and striking out four. His season, however, has been a tale of extremes. The previous weekend at Sacramento State, Parise was tagged for eight earned runs while recording just five outs in a 21-2 loss. He will need to replicate his Wofford form to quiet the Bison.

Bucknell counters with its own hot arm in Brady Hoar. The right-hander is coming off back-to-back strong outings, including six scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts in a 4-1 win at Radford on Feb. 21. He followed that with five innings of three-hit, one-run ball to earn the win in a 6-5 victory over Merrimack last Friday.

Offensively, Saint Joseph’s will look to build on Sunday’s outburst, led by designated hitter Joey Gale, who went 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs against Wofford. Bucknell’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring 24 runs in its three wins but just 10 total in its seven losses.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Bucknell 3, Saint Joseph’s 2.

The game is the first of a three-game weekend series between the teams. They will meet again in Lewisburg on Saturday before the series shifts to Saint Joseph’s for the finale on Sunday.
