Georgetown at George Mason
FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) — The Georgetown Hoyas and George Mason Patriots will open a three-game series under the lights Friday at Spuhler Field, with both teams looking to build momentum in nonconference play.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT in cloudy conditions with temperatures near 49 degrees.
Georgetown (8-5) arrives after a tough 10-9 loss at George Washington on Wednesday, despite multi-RBI games from Connor Peek and Jeremy Sheffield. The Hoyas have won six of their last eight.
George Mason (5-5) enters with confidence after an 11-2 road win at James Madison on Tuesday, highlighted by a strong combined pitching effort.
A key matchup will feature two effective bullpen arms. Georgetown’s Griffin O’Connor has been nearly untouchable, not allowing an earned run over his last 6.2 innings across four appearances, striking out 10. For the Patriots, Diego Cardenas is expected to start after two dominant outings. He has pitched 11 scoreless innings in his last two starts, allowing just three hits combined against James Madison and Seton Hall.
The Patriots will look to continue their recent success at home, where they are 3-0 this season. Georgetown seeks its first road win since Feb. 27.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Georgetown is projected to win 8-5.
The series will shift to Washington, D.C., for Game 2 on Saturday before returning to Fairfax for the finale Sunday.
