Hot Roadrunners Visit Islanders in Non-Conference Clash
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Interstat) — The surging UTSA Roadrunners, boasting one of the nation’s best records, will put their 10-1 mark on the line Tuesday when they visit the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
First pitch is set for Tuesday afternoon at Chapman Field. The Roadrunners have won nine of their last ten, including an 11-6 road victory at Baylor on Sunday. The Islanders (8-4) look to rebound after a 16-4 home loss to Texas Southern on the same day.
UTSA’s momentum is fueled by a powerful offense and strong pitching. In Sunday’s win, catcher Jacob Silva went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and first baseman Caden Miller added a three-run homer. A key player to watch for UTSA is pitcher Conor Myles, who delivered five hitless, scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts against Baylor. In his last two appearances, he has allowed just two hits over 8 1/3 innings.
The Islanders will counter with reliever Kade Budd, who recorded a strikeout in 0.2 scoreless innings Sunday. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had won five of six prior to the lopsided loss, including a series win over Texas Southern.
According to Interstat, the Roadrunners are heavy favorites with a 79.70% probability to win. Their game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, predicting an 8-7 UTSA victory.
Following Tuesday’s contest, UTSA begins a three-game series at New Mexico State on Friday. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opens Southland Conference play at home against Nicholls State on Friday.
