East Carolina vs. College of Charleston

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum will meet Wednesday when East Carolina faces the College of Charleston in a midweek non-conference baseball game at Segra Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures around 45 degrees.

Both clubs enter with identical 3-5-1 records. The Pirates are coming off a 3-3 tie at North Carolina on Sunday, while the Cougars salvaged a series split with a 7-6 win over South Alabama the same day.

A key matchup will feature recent standout performers on the mound. East Carolina’s Colby Weber delivered 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s tie against the Tar Heels, allowing just two hits. The Pirates will need a similar effort as they navigate a bullpen game.

College of Charleston will counter with Jace Stancil, who earned the win Sunday by throwing 4 1/3 innings and allowing two earned runs against South Alabama. The Cougars’ offense was powered in that victory by catcher Dylan Johnson, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and first baseman Braeden Smith, who hit a two-run homer.

East Carolina’s offense showed life in a 10-3 win at North Carolina on Saturday, part of a three-game set that saw wildly fluctuating results. Designated hitter Jack Vogele drove in two runs in Sunday’s tie.

The Pirates have lost four of their last six after a season-opening win. The Cougars have struggled for consistency, having allowed 10 or more runs in four of their five losses this season.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, East Carolina is projected for a narrow 4-3 victory.

Following this neutral-site contest, East Carolina returns home to host Rutgers for a three-game series starting Friday. College of Charleston travels to Greenville, South Carolina, for a weekend tournament, opening against James Madison on Friday.
