Maryland at Delaware
Cold-Weather Clash Set for Newark as Maryland Visits Delaware
NEWARK, Del. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to heat up their early seasons will meet in chilly conditions Tuesday evening when the Maryland Terrapins face the Delaware Blue Hens at Bob Hannah Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature forecast near 36 degrees.
Maryland (2-3) arrives after a tough weekend on the road, dropping three of four games at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Terrapins fell 6-5 in 15 innings on Sunday despite a brilliant combined pitching effort. Delaware (1-6) is seeking momentum after being swept in a three-game series at Mississippi State, culminating in a 7-3 loss on Sunday.
A key matchup will feature standout relievers from each side. Maryland’s Logan Hastings is coming off a phenomenal outing Sunday, throwing 7 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings in relief with seven strikeouts. For the Blue Hens, Ryan Pugh provided three hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts in the same day’s contest.
Offensively, the Terrapins will look to build on Ryan Costello’s Sunday performance, where the designated hitter went 2-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs. Delaware’s bullpen, which saw effective outings from Jonah Richardson (4 Ks in 2.0 IP) and Jackson Hulcher on Sunday, will aim to contain Maryland’s bats.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Maryland is projected to win 5-2.
The game is the first of a home-and-home midweek series between the regional foes, who will meet again in College Park on Tuesday, March 3.
For Maryland, this begins a stretch of four straight games against opponents from the First State, with a three-game weekend series against Wagner looming. Delaware faces a quick turnaround, traveling to La Salle on Wednesday before hosting Rider for a three-game set starting Friday.
