Tennessee Tech at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pair of in-state programs riding hot streaks will meet under the lights Tuesday when the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in nonconference baseball action at Reese Smith Jr. Field.

First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday evening with frigid conditions expected; the forecast calls for a game-time temperature of 33 degrees under cloudy skies.

Both teams enter with 5-2 records in their last seven games. Tennessee Tech (5-3) swept a four-game series from Ohio over the weekend, capped by a 6-3 victory Sunday. Middle Tennessee (5-2) took two of three from Saint Bonaventure, including a 7-0 shutout in Sunday’s series finale.

The matchup features two standout pitchers coming off dominant performances. Tennessee Tech will look to right-hander Jaxson Pease, who earned the win Sunday by allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings against Ohio. For the Blue Raiders, right-hander David Horn is a key arm after he struck out nine and allowed just two hits over five scoreless innings in Sunday’s win over Saint Bonaventure.

Offensively, the Golden Eagles have averaged 7.1 runs per game during their current four-game win streak. First baseman Aaron Moffitt drove in a run in Sunday’s victory. Middle Tennessee’s offense erupted for 19 runs against Alabama A&M last Tuesday and was led Sunday by right fielder Brett Rogers, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tennessee Tech is projected to win a 7-5 decision.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Tennessee Tech will host Illinois-Chicago for a three-game series starting Friday. Middle Tennessee remains home to welcome Illinois State for a three-game set beginning Friday.
