Virginia Tech at James Madison
HARRISONBURG, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Virginia Tech baseball team looks to continue its strong start when it visits in-state foe James Madison for a midweek nonconference matchup Tuesday at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening, with forecasted game-time temperatures near 36 degrees under cloudy skies.
The Hokies (6-1) have won six straight since a season-opening loss, including a weekend series win over Rutgers. They edged the Scarlet Knights 4-3 on Sunday, powered by strong bullpen work. Reliever Luke Craytor was particularly sharp, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. The right-hander is expected to be a key pitcher for Virginia Tech again Tuesday.
James Madison (3-3) is coming off a series win over Le Moyne, highlighted by a 16-1 victory Saturday. In that win, starter Luke Alexander was dominant, allowing just one hit over five shutout innings while striking out six. He will be a player to watch for the Dukes’ pitching staff.
The Hokies’ offense has been potent during their win streak, scoring eight or more runs in four of those victories. James Madison’s bats also came alive against Le Moyne, scoring 27 runs over the final two games of that series.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a Virginia Tech victory with a final score of 8-5.
This game begins a challenging stretch for Virginia Tech, which travels to Arlington, Texas, this weekend for games against Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Tennessee. James Madison heads to Greenville, South Carolina, for a weekend tournament featuring games against College of Charleston, Albany and Michigan State.
