Sanderson, a first baseman, delivered the decisive blow in the seventh inning after Minnesota had climbed back from an eight-run deficit to within two. His two-run homer to left-center field scored Dylan Carey, who had reached on an error to lead off the inning, and gave Nebraska a 14-10 lead. The Cornhuskers needed the insurance because Minnesota scored once more in the eighth on a solo home run by Davis Hamilton.

Nebraska jumped ahead early, scoring four times in the second inning. Jett Buck doubled home Josh Overbeek, and Mac Moyer followed with a two-run homer. The Golden Gophers answered with three runs in the bottom half, including a two-run homer by Sam Hunt, but Nebraska stretched its lead to 8-3 in the third. Buck struck again with a three-run homer, and the Cornhuskers added three more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Overbeek and a run-scoring single by Rhett Stokes that produced two runs after a throwing error.

Minnesota chipped away steadily. Jack Bello homered in the fourth and fifth innings, and Ty Allen connected for a two-run shot in the fifth. The Golden Gophers scored four times in the sixth, pulling within 12-10. Charlie Sutherland had a two-run single, and Easton Richter added a sacrifice fly. But Sanderson’s seventh-inning blast restored the four-run margin.
