UAB at Texas-San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The American Athletic Conference series between UAB and Texas-San Antonio concludes Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field, with the Roadrunners looking to build on their strong season and the Blazers aiming to even the weekend set.
UTSA (35-18) enters with a 74.1 percent win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 6-3 final score for the home side. The Roadrunners hold a five-game edge in the overall record and have won 11 of their last 15 games.
First pitch is set for a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures around 82 degrees.
UAB (30-23) won the series opener 7-6 on Thursday, rallying behind Landon Beaver’s two-run homer. Beaver, the Blazers’ right fielder, went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in that game. Over his last 10 contests, he has three multi-hit games and has driven in six runs, though he has also struggled with four hitless outings in that span. He is a key bat in a lineup that has scored 11 or more runs four times this season but has also been held to two runs or fewer in five of its last eight losses.
Mason Steele pitched 8⅓ innings in Thursday’s win, allowing no hits and six earned runs with four strikeouts, but his outing was cut short. Chase Ingram recorded the final two outs for the save.
On the UTSA side, first baseman Caden Miller has been a consistent power threat. In Thursday’s narrow loss, he went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Miller has homered in two of his last three games and has driven in multiple runs in four of his past six appearances. His performance at the plate has helped the Roadrunners average 8.7 runs per game over their last 10 contests, a stretch that includes a 19-4 rout of Texas State on May 12.
The teams played Friday, though the result was not immediately available. Thursday’s game marked the fourth consecutive meeting between UAB and UTSA this season.
Both clubs enter the final game of the three‑game series with postseason aspirations. UTSA’s pitching staff has been solid, with Connor Kelley working 5⅔ innings of three‑hit, one‑run ball on Thursday. The Roadrunners’ offense, led by Miller and catcher Andrew Stucky — who homered and drove in two in the series opener — will look to support a starter yet to be announced.
UAB will counter with an offense that has shown resilience, especially in the middle of the lineup. Beaver’s recent surge, paired with Steele’s ability to go deep into games, gives the Blazers a chance to steal a road win.
The game is the last regular‑season meeting between the two conference foes this season.
