Rice rallies past Tulane 6‑5 in 11 innings

HOUSTON (Interstat) — Ryland Urbanczyk tossed six innings of four-hit ball and Hiram Bocachica drove in two runs as Rice edged Tulane 6-5 in 11 innings Saturday afternoon at M.O. Campbell Center.

The Green Wave seized a 5-0 lead in the third inning on Jason Wachs’ two-run homer, his ninth of the season. Tulane starter LuisPablo Navarro worked 4⅔ hitless frames with four strikeouts.

Rice chipped away, scoring once in the seventh on a fielding error, then tying the game in the ninth on Bocachica’s two-run single. After Bryson Ayala’s two-run double put Tulane ahead 5-3 in the 10th, Rice answered with a run on a double play and another on a wild pitch to knot it at 5-5.

In the 11th, Anderson’s sacrifice fly scored West with the walk-off run. Urbanczyk (6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 K) earned the win. Bocachica went 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Tulane fell to 25-31; Rice improved to 34-22 in American Athletic play.
