AUBURN, Ala. (Interstat) — The Georgia Bulldogs (42-11) aim for a series sweep Saturday when they face the Auburn Tigers (35-17) in an Southeastern Conference matchup at Samford Stadium-Hitchcock Field at Plainsman Park.

The game, scheduled for the afternoon and evening, will be played under cloudy skies with a forecasted temperature of 73 degrees. Georgia has won the first two games of the series, 2-1 on Thursday and 8-6 on Friday, and has won 10 of its last 11 overall.

Right-handed pitcher Joey Volchko (7-2) is expected to start for Georgia. The junior has been inconsistent recently. He earned a win Thursday against Auburn, allowing one earned run on no hits with six strikeouts over five innings. In his previous outing May 8 against LSU, he gave up seven earned runs on seven hits in 3⅓ innings. Volchko also threw six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in a win over Missouri on May 1.

Auburn will counter with right-hander Jake Marciano (6-3). Marciano took the loss Thursday, yielding two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts over six innings. He struggled May 7 at Mississippi State, allowing four earned runs without recording an out. Marciano’s best recent start came May 2 at Texas A&M, when he threw six innings, allowed no hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts in a win.

Georgia’s offense has produced 17 runs in the first two games. Second baseman Ryan Wynn went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI in Thursday’s win. The Bulldogs swept LSU last weekend and have outscored opponents 57-20 during a four-game winning streak.

Auburn enters Saturday having lost four of its last five. The Tigers beat Mississippi State twice earlier this month but fell to Jacksonville State 4-1 on Tuesday. Right fielder Mason McCraine went 1-for-3 in Thursday’s loss.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Georgia 8, Auburn 6. The Interstat ELO system gives Georgia a 52.90 percent probability to win.
