Stetson at Queens (NC)
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The Stetson Hatters aim to extend their winning streak against the Queens (NC) Royals when the ASUN rivals meet Saturday afternoon at Truist Park.
Stetson (22-30 overall) enters the game having won the first two games of the four-game series, including a 2-0 shutout Thursday. The Hatters have taken three of the five meetings this season, with Queens (15-37) taking two of three in DeLand, Florida, in mid-April.
Right-hander Joel Core is a key arm for Stetson after tossing 4⅓ hitless innings with two strikeouts in Thursday’s win. In his last four appearances spanning 12⅓ innings, Core has allowed three earned runs and struck out 11. He has been effective in relief but could see increased innings as the Hatters chase a series victory.
Queens counters with right-hander Avery Booker, who started Thursday’s loss and allowed one earned run on seven hits over six innings with two strikeouts. Booker has been inconsistent this season, posting a 7.36 ERA over his last six outings, but showed flashes in a six-inning, two-run performance against Duke on May 5. The Royals will need a strong outing to slow a Stetson offense that has scored 16 runs twice in the past two weeks.
The Hatters’ bats have been powered by Renzo Gonzalez, who homered and drove in a run Thursday. Stetson is coming off a series win over Jacksonville and has won four of its last five games overall.
Queens has lost five of its last six, including a 10-3 defeat to Elon on Tuesday. The Royals’ pitching staff has struggled, allowing 10 or more runs in three of their past five losses.
Weather is forecast to be clear with a temperature of 69 degrees at first pitch.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Stetson is projected to win 5-3, with a 77.6% probability of victory. The Hatters’ ELO rating also favors the visitors.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
