MACOMB, Ill. (Interstat) — Bryce Riggs pitched six scoreless, no-hit innings and Ethan Rossi drove in four runs to lead Eastern Illinois past Western Illinois 9-8 on Friday at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Panthers (30-19) built a 9-3 lead behind Rossi’s three-run homer in the fourth and solo shots from Mike O’Conor in the ninth. Zak Goodwin added two RBIs. Riggs, coming off a poor start, struck out five and allowed three earned runs.

The Leathernecks (15-34) rallied with two runs in the seventh on Gage Hoover’s triple, then homers from Joshua McClintock in the eighth and Kamryn Link in the ninth made it 9-8. But Anthony Solis retired the final two batters for the save. Western’s Jason Buhl allowed eight hits and three earned runs in six innings.

Eastern won for the second straight day.
