HEMPSTEAD, Texas (Interstat) — Prairie View defeated Mississippi Valley State 5-3 on Friday afternoon at Tankersley Field in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game. The Panthers improved to 11-34, while the Delta Devils fell to 12-35.

Zacarias Salinas homered in the second inning to cut Prairie View’s deficit. Ryland Duson doubled in a run and later scored on a Salinas groundout in the third to tie the game. Duson added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give Prairie View the lead. John Lawson doubled in a run in the sixth.

Mississippi Valley State scored three runs in the second on a two-run homer by Gabe Huelsing and an RBI single by Jaxon Haynes. Each team finished with eight hits.

Prairie View pitchers Beau Beaty, Jaxston Fipps and Ty Pankonin held the Delta Devils scoreless after the third. The win followed Prairie View’s 11-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday.
