Beavers Ride Early Surge Past Falcons, 7‑4

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — Oregon State scored six runs in the first three innings Thursday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field and held on to defeat Air Force 7-4.

The Beavers (42-11) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first after Walker Zapp doubled in a run and later scored on a passed ball. Oregon State answered quickly in the bottom half when Paul Vazquez homered to left, his eighth of the season, driving in two runs.

Ethan Porter’s two-run double in the third put the Beavers ahead 4-2, and Josh Proctor followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 6-2. A bases-loaded walk in the fifth made it 7-2.

Air Force (24-25) mounted a late threat in the ninth when Tripp Garrish homered to center with a man on, cutting the deficit to three. But Oregon State’s bullpen closed the door.

Ethan Kleinschmit earned the win, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts over five innings. Wyatt Queen added four innings of two-run relief with seven strikeouts. For Air Force, Gunner Gilmore and Marcus Downing each threw 2 1/3 scoreless frames.
