SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — Ryan Markwardt tossed six innings of two-hit shutout ball with nine strikeouts as Texas State defeated Marshall 5-0 on Thursday in Sun Belt play at Bobcat Ballpark. The Bobcats, now 32-22, scored all their runs via the long ball early. Jaquae Stewart homered in the first, Clayton Namken followed with a solo shot, and Brady Boles added a homer in the second. Blake Beheler singled home a run in the seventh, and Stewart doubled in another run later that inning. Texas State finished with 10 hits. Marshall, which dropped to 23-29, managed only four hits. Bryce Blevins took the loss despite striking out three over seven innings, allowing five earned runs. The Thundering Herd could not solve Markwardt, who recorded his second consecutive scoreless outing of at least three innings.
