Mount Saint Mary`s at Niagara

STELA NIAGARA, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series between Mount St. Mary’s and Niagara continues Thursday evening at Bobo Field, with the Purple Eagles looking to rebound from a lopsided loss to the Mountaineers a day earlier.

Niagara (25-18-1) holds a 64.9 percent probability of victory according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 7-3 final score. The Purple Eagles enter with a four-game advantage over Mount St. Mary’s (21-25) in the loss column.

The Mountaineers pounded Niagara 15-4 on Wednesday, piling up 14 hits. Serigne Sarre was dominant on the mound, throwing seven innings of shutout, no-hit ball while allowing two unearned runs and striking out eight. Sarre has been electric over his past five appearances, posting a 1.48 ERA across 24 1/3 innings with 30 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed over his last three starts. The right-hander has held opponents hitless in three of those five outings.

First baseman Cameron Biller and left fielder Evan Meier also powered the Mount St. Mary’s offense Wednesday. Biller went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Meier drove in three runs.

Niagara catcher Jason Green was the bright spot in defeat, finishing 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Green has been one of the Purple Eagles’ most consistent run producers, collecting four multi-hit games in his last nine contests while driving in 12 runs over his past four. He homered in consecutive games Saturday at Manhattan and again Wednesday.

The Purple Eagles’ pitching staff struggled Wednesday, allowing 15 runs on 14 hits. Luke Glenn took the loss after allowing four runs over 3 2/3 innings.

Thursday’s forecast calls for 60 degrees and cloudy skies at first pitch.

Mount St. Mary’s has won three of its last four overall, though that stretch includes a three-game series loss at Merrimack last weekend. The Mountaineers are 4-6 in their last 10.

Niagara dropped to 6-4 in its last 10 with Wednesday’s loss. The Purple Eagles took two of three from both Manhattan and Rider earlier this month.

The teams will conclude the series Friday afternoon at Bobo Field.
