South Carolina at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — South Carolina visits Vanderbilt in an afternoon Southeastern Conference baseball matchup Thursday at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

The Gamecocks (22-31) enter on a four-game losing streak after a 5-2 loss to Winthrop on Tuesday. South Carolina was swept in a three-game series at Alabama last weekend and has lost eight of its last nine games. Vanderbilt (29-23) dropped its series finale at Missouri 4-1 on Sunday but has won three of its last five contests.

Thursday’s forecast calls for clear skies and 75 degrees at first pitch.

South Carolina pitcher Cooper Parks has been a bright spot amid the team’s struggles. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run in his last six appearances, spanning 10 innings. In Tuesday’s loss, Parks threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

For Vanderbilt, pitcher Jacob Faulkner has dominated of late. He threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings against Missouri on Sunday, allowing no hits while striking out three. Over his last four outings, Faulkner has not allowed an earned run in 9 2/3 innings, yielding three hits with five strikeouts.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-1 Vanderbilt victory.

The teams will play again Friday and Saturday to close the regular-season series.
