Toledo vs. Bowling Green
TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — The Toledo Rockets look to build on a dominant head-to-head run when they host the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference matchup Tuesday at Scott Park Baseball Complex.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies, with the temperature expected at 56 degrees.
Toledo (27-25) brings momentum into the series opener, having won six of its past seven games. The Rockets swept a three-game set at Ohio over the weekend, capped by an 8-3 victory Sunday. Right-hander Michael Fliss earned the win in that outing, tossing seven innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts. Fliss has been stellar of late, allowing two earned runs or fewer in each of his past four starts. He will take the mound Tuesday looking to replicate his success against a Bowling Green lineup he held hitless over three innings in a 6-4 victory April 26.
Bowling Green (17-28) enters having lost seven of its past 10 but snapped a three-game skid Sunday with a 7-5 win over Western Michigan. Right-hander Jackson Miller delivered a strong start, allowing one hit and no earned runs over five innings with nine strikeouts. Miller will counter for the Falcons, hoping to reverse his recent fortunes against Toledo. He gave up three earned runs on six hits across four innings in that April 26 loss.
The Rockets have won two of three meetings this season, taking the first two games of a series at Bowling Green before falling 9-5 in the finale April 24. Toledo’s offense has provided ample support, averaging 8.3 runs over its past six contests. Catcher Jacob Payne homered and drove in two runs Sunday, while right fielder Cade Baker added two hits and two RBIs.
For Bowling Green, first baseman Vinny Salvione has been a consistent contributor, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs in Sunday’s win.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-3 Toledo victory.
Both teams open another three-game series Thursday, with Toledo hosting Kent State and Bowling Green traveling to Ball State.
