San Diego at Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Pacific Tigers look to complete a three-game sweep of the San Diego Toreros on Sunday evening at Klein Family Field. First pitch is set under clear skies, with temperatures expected at 83 degrees.
Pacific (21-25 overall) has won the first two games of the series, including a shutout Saturday and a 6-4 victory Friday. The Tigers have taken four of their last five games entering the finale. San Diego (17-28) has lost five of its last six.
The pitching matchup features two of the series’ key arms. Pacific right-hander Zach Todd is scheduled to start. Todd has won his last four outings, including Friday’s win over the Toreros, where he allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings while striking out four. In his previous start April 24 at San Francisco, he threw six scoreless innings, allowing no hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts. Over his last four appearances, Todd has a 1.50 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 23 innings.
San Diego counters with right-hander Diego Gutierrez. Gutierrez struggled Friday against the Tigers, lasting 5.1 innings while giving up six earned runs — all without allowing a hit — and striking out six. The outing continued an inconsistent stretch: On May 1, he earned a win at Portland with six innings of one-run ball and seven strikeouts, but on April 24 against Saint Mary’s, he allowed five earned runs in 3.1 innings.
Friday’s game saw productive performances from both lineups. Pacific designated hitter Jake Tandy went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while reliever Carson Revay struck out six over 2.2 innings. For San Diego, third baseman Connor Meidroth homered and drove in a run, and reliever Christian Garcia tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 victory for Pacific.
After Sunday’s game, Pacific travels to Cal State Bakersfield for a single game Tuesday, then opens a three-game series at Portland on May 14. San Diego returns home to host Loyola Marymount for a three-game set beginning May 14.
