Texas State at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — Texas State goes for a Sun Belt series sweep Sunday afternoon against Arkansas State at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field.

The Bobcats (30-21) have taken the first two games of the three-game set, winning 8-3 on Saturday and 6-2 on Friday. A victory Sunday would complete a road sweep and extend Texas State’s winning streak to three games.

Arkansas State (28-21) will try to avoid the sweep on its home field. The Red Wolves have dropped two straight after winning four of their previous five.

Texas State’s offense has been productive in the series. In Saturday’s win, pitcher Cade Smith, pitcher Alec Beversdorf and third baseman Chase Mora were the most productive players for the Bobcats. The team has scored 14 runs in two games against Arkansas State pitching.

The Red Wolves got strong contributions Saturday from pitcher Kole Turner, second baseman Lane Walton and first baseman Derek Martinez, but the team managed only three runs.

Sunday’s forecast calls for clear skies and a temperature of 75 degrees at first pitch.

The Interstate Game Simulator projects a 5-4 Arkansas State victory, which would give the Red Wolves a series split after the first two losses.

Texas State has been inconsistent recently. Before taking the first two games of this series, the Bobcats lost four of five, including a 9-6 win over Baylor on May 5 sandwiched between series losses to South Alabama and a loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Texas State also dropped two of three at Coastal Carolina in late April.

Arkansas State has shown flashes of dominance. The Red Wolves shut out Arkansas-Little Rock 12-0 on May 5, but they lost two of three at Old Dominion the previous weekend. Before that, Arkansas State took two of three at home against Louisiana-Lafayette, including an 8-3 win on April 26.

Following Sunday’s game, Texas State travels to Texas-San Antonio on Tuesday before returning home for a three-game series against Marshall beginning Thursday.

Arkansas State heads to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, then opens a three-game series at South Alabama on Thursday.
