Alabama at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Interstat) — Alabama goes for a three-game Southeastern Conference sweep Sunday afternoon against South Carolina at Carolina Stadium, with first pitch set for a time to be determined amid a forecast of 72 degrees and rain.

The Crimson Tide (34-17 overall) have dominated the series opener and Saturday’s contest, outscoring the Gamecocks 17-9 at the plate while getting strong pitching from left-hander Zane Adams, who tossed six scoreless innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts in a 9-6 victory Saturday. Alabama enters the afternoon having won four of its last five games, including the past two at South Carolina’s expense.

The Gamecocks (22-29) have lost nine of their last 10 contests overall and are seeking to avoid a sweep on their home field. South Carolina’s only win in that stretch came against Kentucky on April 25.

Alabama designated hitter John Lemm will be a key figure in the Crimson Tide lineup. Lemm went 1 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in Saturday’s win, following an 0-for-4 performance Friday. He has shown power recently, homering in three of his last four games, including a solo shot against Vanderbilt on May 1. Lemm is hitting with sporadic consistency — he has recorded a hit in just four of his last 10 games — but remains a dangerous threat when he makes contact.

For South Carolina, designated hitter Jake Randolph leads the offense. Randolph went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs in Saturday’s loss, boosting his production after an 0-for-4 showing Friday. Randolph has been steady in the batter’s box, collecting a hit in six of his last eight contests, though the Gamecocks have struggled to generate consistent run support.

Saturday’s game was decided largely by Alabama’s early offense and Adams’ dominant outing. Jojo Williamson added two hits and a home run with three RBIs for the Crimson Tide. For South Carolina, relievers Cooper Parks (2 innings, 1 hit, 1 strikeout) and Riley Goodman (1 inning, 0 hits, 2 strikeouts) provided effective relief.

The Crimson Tide will look to stay hot heading into a homestand against Mississippi starting Thursday. The Gamecocks host Winthrop on Tuesday before traveling to Vanderbilt for a weekend series.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Alabama victory.
