Canisius edges Sacred Heart 5‑3 on Silliman’s late homer

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Interstat) — Owen Silliman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Canisius to a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday at Demske Sports Complex. The Golden Griffins improved to 18-23, while the Pioneers fell to 13-27.

Canisius grabbed an early lead with three runs in the first inning on a fielder’s choice and a two-run double by Eric Weeks. Sacred Heart tied the game in the second on Nathan Bowes’ RBI double, added a solo homer by Will Rudolph in the fourth and took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. But Silliman’s blast in the ninth decided it.

Ryan Parker pitched seven innings for Sacred Heart, allowing no hits but three earned runs with six strikeouts. Joe LoPinto started for Canisius, tossing 5 1/3 innings with six hits and three earned runs. Noah Albano and Weston Elkovitch combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
