PHOENIX (Interstat) — Cannon Peery’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Grand Canyon to a 6-5 victory over New Mexico on Friday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in a Mountain West matchup that stretched deep into extra innings.

New Mexico struck first and struck hard, scoring all five of its runs in the top of the second inning. Grand Canyon starter Chase Frey settled down after that, completing seven innings with seven hits and four earned runs allowed while striking out six.

In the bottom of the ninth, with Corkrean still pitching for New Mexico, Cameron singled up the middle. Sanko followed with a double to right center that scored Cameron, tying the game at 5-5. Sanko advanced to third on a wild pitch, but Perez grounded into a double play that saw Sanko thrown out at home plate, sending the game to extra innings.
