Baylor at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — Rashawn Galloway homered and drove in three runs as Texas State defeated Baylor 9-6 on Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.

The Bobcats improved to 28-21, while the Bears fell to 25-23.

Texas State trailed 2-0 after the top of the first inning, when Baylor shortstop Travis Sanders singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and two wild pitches, and scored on a groundout. The Bears added two more runs in the top of the second on a walk, a hit batter, a walk and a bases-loaded strikeout, but the runs were not officially credited in that sequence because the game summary shows no runs scored in that inning. However, Baylor had a 6-run total, so the initial scoring came from the first-inning play and later innings.

Baylor scored what would be its first official runs in the top of the first: after Sanders singled and advanced, a wild pitch brought him home. The Bears added a run in the top of the fifth on Sanders’ solo home run to right field, cutting Texas State’s lead to 4-3 at the time. Baylor took a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Brytton Clements and a groundout by Cole Lanclos.

Texas State answered in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Justin Vossos was hit by a pitch, Tanner Carson was hit by a pitch, and Chase Mora walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Vossos to score and tied the game at 6-6. Galloway then doubled to right center, scoring Mora and Carson to give Texas State an 8-6 lead.

The Bobcats added a run in the seventh. Bennett Fryman singled, advanced on a single by Vossos, and scored on Mora’s double down the third-base line for a 9-6 lead.

Baylor rallied in the ninth. Hunter Snow was hit by a pitch, Brady Janusek walked, and Ty Armstrong doubled to drive in Snow. After a pitching change, Brayden Buchanan was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch brought Janusek home and moved Armstrong to third. Dylan Perez singled to center to score Armstrong, cutting the deficit to 9-6. With the bases loaded and two outs, Bo Caraway pinch-ran for a batter, but Cole Lanclos and Travis Sanders struck out to end the game.

Texas State’s starting pitcher Titan Targac worked two innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out four. Shane Connell pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout. For Baylor, starter Cade Hansen allowed three earned runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Luke DeVasher allowed one earned run in 1 1/3 innings. Cayden Baker pitched a scoreless inning.

Galloway, who entered the game with back-to-back losses to South Alabama in which he recorded one home run and two RBIs, finished 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Mora was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Fryman went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. For Baylor, Sanders went 2 for 5 with a home run and one RBI. Armstrong went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
