Texas-Rio Grande Valley at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — Oregon State, boasting one of the nation’s top records at 34-9, hosts Texas-Rio Grande Valley (19-25) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Forecasters call for clear skies and a game-time temperature of 40 degrees.

The Beavers enter with momentum after a 4-2 win over the Vaqueros on Tuesday, the first of this two-game series. Oregon State has won nine of its last 11, while UTRGV has dropped four of six.

Pitching matchup

Oregon State right-hander Trey Morris (3-1, 2.70 ERA) will start. The junior struck out six over six innings of three-hit, shutout ball in Tuesday’s win, lowering his season ERA. Over his last three outings, Morris has allowed one earned run in 14 innings with 18 strikeouts.

UTRGV counters with right-hander Robert Bonilla (3-5, 6.23 ERA). Bonilla was sharp Tuesday, tossing 5.2 hitless innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision. However, consistency has eluded him — he surrendered seven earned runs in two innings against Arkansas-Little Rock on April 22. In three of his last five appearances, he has allowed three or more earned runs.

Projection and odds

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Oregon State victory. Its ELO system gives the Beavers an 82.6% win probability.
