Southern Indiana at Purdue
BASEBALL PREVIEW: Southern Indiana at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Interstat) — Purdue hosts Southern Indiana in a midweek non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Field. The Boilermakers (27-15) carry a 71.50 percent probability to win per Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 6-3 final. First-pitch weather calls for 55 degrees and clouds.
Southern Indiana (23-21) enters on a three-game losing streak after dropping all three at Morehead State over the weekend, capped by a 17-13 slugfest Sunday. Catcher Micajah Wall went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in that loss, continuing a streaky stretch: Wall has homered in two of his last four games but has batted 0-for-9 in back-to-back games prior to Sunday.
Purdue returns home after a sweep at Southern California, including an 11-4 loss Sunday. Outfielder Avery Moore homered and drove in two runs in that defeat. Moore has been consistent throughout April, collecting hits in seven of his last 10 games with three home runs and nine RBIs over that span.
Both teams look to right the ship before weekend series. The Screaming Eagles return home to host Tennessee Tech for three games starting Friday. The Boilermakers host Murray State in a three-game set beginning Friday.
Southern Indiana’s Eben Hansen threw 2 2/3 innings of one-run relief Sunday. Purdue’s Jake Kramer allowed three earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in his last outing. Both bullpens remain in flux after heavy weekend workloads.
Wednesday’s game is the first meeting between the programs this season.
