La Salle at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Interstat) — La Salle visits Iona on Wednesday for a nonconference baseball game at City Park, with first pitch scheduled for the afternoon. The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature of 58 degrees.

The Explorers (19-26) enter on a high note after a 9-2 win against Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday. Jayden Novak led that victory, going 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs. The catcher has struggled in most of his previous 10 games, batting just .190 with two homers and six RBIs in that span, but his power outburst Tuesday could provide a lift.

Iona (15-21) is coming off a 5-4, 10-inning win at Fairfield on Sunday. Pitcher Sean Davis was dominant, throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts while allowing no hits. Over his last four starts, Davis has a 1.42 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 19 innings, including a six-inning, one-run outing at Maryland-Baltimore County on April 4.

The Gaels have won four of their past six games, while La Salle has lost seven of 10.

The teams met once earlier this season, with La Salle winning 18-13 at home on April 1.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Iona victory, but the same company’s ELO system gives La Salle a 66.4 percent probability of winning.

After Wednesday, La Salle opens a three-game series at Dayton on Friday, while Iona begins a three-game home set against Canisius on Friday.
